It was my dearest wish to write in a robot fandom this year. And so this happened:

Crazy, Stupid, Life. [Blade Runner 2049, K/Deckard, explicit, 9K]

I started out wanting to do a short and sweet hurt/comfort story where Deckard rescues K. When I was done, it was practically a new canon installment, lol! There's action and (hopefully) unconventional romance, fakeout makeouts and K being really badass, reading Pinocchio and learning how to be a real boy, punching Voight-Kampff machines (because somebody had to), and making bucket lists!

I also mostly plotted out an f/f classic movie treat, but life just ATE me in the week before Christmas. Hopefully, next year!

I can't believe this Yuletide, I got FOUR gifts! It took me a whole Christmas day to read just that, I didn't want to get out of that bubble! As Peri ♥ said, I made out like a bandit! I am so unbelievably grateful, you can't imagine. I'm ecstatic, bowled over, blown away. Like, I want to run around and hug writers if they are into hugs from some randos like me! And like one of my fave songs says, I feel like the girl with the most cake :D

So, I want to share that cake because it's EXCELLENT stuff:

(the style is just *PRAISE HANDS EMOJI*, the Nightingale's tone is elegiac, and his thoughts on Peter are everything I wanted and more, the research is astounding; there's VARVARA and Molly, bog bodies, grabby tentacles, eerie beautiful songs, and punching people before kissing them)

• down goes the mist
Rivers of London, Peter/Nightingale, sex pollen, 3K
(a hot sex-pollen romp with so many fun worldbuildey details, and the pining and then the awkwardness of the aftermath is so real and delicious; I'm always a huge fan of Latin riddles and spells, and of slightly evil wizard artefacts!)

• three ways of playing a chorus
The Talented Mr. Ripley, EVERYBODY goes to Cortina: sex and murder on the slopes, 10K
(tags are, I kid you not: #Love Polygon, #Rough Sex, #Snow --- I was SCREAMING when I shook that treat; change of location doesn't mean change of character or heart for Tom; so amazingly in-character all around, all this subtle class interplay and twisted desire that can only lead to a murder or two; I so enjoyed the sexual dynamics between everybody in this one, but this Peter esp. slayed me on a deep personal level, lol)

The Talented Mr. Ripley, Peter/Tom, snow as an allegory, 1K
(a lovely, atmospheric glimpse of Peter and Tom's relationship that grows from cozy to ominous as the winter weather is as chilling as Tom's real nature)

And my recipient looks happy with her gift, so all in all, this has been a blast of a Yuletide.

Such a Perfect Yuletide year! With a well-deserved capital P! I got three (eeeeeeee!!!) stories that are perfect for both halves of my heart! Yes, all these gifs are necessary because they are MY FACE.

There are stray animals of all kinds and hand-holding, omg. There's a spider doing a mating dance for Marcus and thug hedgehogs doing unspeakable things to Clyde, a ferret who needs a shower and a hipster pig standing up to Papa Holmes. And a heartbreaking dog that causes all this hand-holding that I'M LOVING. Hilarious and heart-wrenching. A candy cane of a story in my favoritest canon for years, and my heart has exploded into the teeny-tiny heart-shaped confetti by the end of it. And I'm okay with that.

• Sometimes Your Worst Self Is Your Best Self [True Detective/Fear the Walking Dead. Paul/Tyler + FTWD crew. explicit.]

GAY ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE of my heart, super detailed worldbuilding and so much thought given to how a cop/former vet would adapt to this brand new world. In which Taylor Kitsch and a hot guy are having feels and sexy times. Because now their world is dying and rules no longer apply. While evading zombies with the beautifully fleshed-out FTWD characters. in LA. I'm collapsing and dying.

• In My Mind Because [True Detective. Paul and his sad fantasies about his hot self, and hot gay angels with WINGS. explicit.]

A bittersweet coda to the very hotel balcony scene that made me fall so hard for Paul on the show. So much gorgeous Paul thinking and the smoking hot porn, omg! Read, read, especially if you share my strange addiction to sad beautiful men getting themselves off.

Dead from all these feels, I'm just going to helplessly crawl away, cradling my precious fics for the rest of this long weekend. Thank you so much, you kind anon writers, you are the best and my favorite and the reason why I want to do Yuletide always!!! I hope that you're having a wonderful Yuletide of your own.

I wasn't going to do Yuletide this year. I wasn't! But those prompt bunnies were strong and had long teeth. And I've never had less than an excellent gift fic :) Now, mostly waffling on my offers: it's between the usual suspects and then the sudden cravings that were brought on by the trickling DYW letters.

What do you think of this year's tag set? I'm excited that Rivers of London, Miss Fisher's, Mad Max, and Jupiter Ascending are going strong. Adding The Librarians S1 (only available as streaming, whyyy), the Raven Cycle, and The Martian to the pile of things I need to have in my life. And I've been meaning to read the actual Eagle (of the Ninth) books, so maybe next Yuletide for some Happy Gay Roman Farmers.

Everyone is doing the year-in-review memes, but I haven't had much fannish history this year:

- I spent more time in fandom and on tumblr - which wasn't hard compared with an absolute zero in 2013;
- I started roleplaying again and it's never been more fun;
- I read oodles of fic and I wrote one.

In real life, I've learned to let go of things and to take care of myself, even if it simply means closing the door and sitting on the bed alone for half a hour.

And the last but not the least, I'm grateful for all of you who are still around and posting!

Also, ridiculously unsuccessful supervillains, dear old dead friends, Secret Service, TJ's grandmother being inappropriate, and a lone match-making deer.

I had such a lovely, unexpected response to it and I'm thankful to everyone who read, commented, kudos'ed. It's the first fic I've posted in years, so this means the world to me.

• Charlie Hunnam, Master of Subtlety, Pacific Rim RPF, Idris Elba/Charlie Hunnam, teen+
This is the story of pining and of the uninvited boners, of your crush getting in your personal space and of you saying the dumbest things while all your friends going 'oh come onnnn'. There's this incredible sense of Idris Elba's physical presence, and this man is delicious. It gives me thirst for public makeouts! I am SO grateful the writer picked my prompt! Imagine going 'I really want this thing but literally no-one else cares about this fandom of one'? And then someone swoops in and writes it for you for Yuletide, and it's per-fect, and you're suddenly made only of feels, and hugs, and puppies.

• This Air So Free, Boardwalk Empire, Jimmy Darmody/Pearl + Richard Harlow, mature.
What would happen if Jimmy Darmody didn't go to war? This story still takes Jimmy on a tour of his show arc, but as a person with a different life experience. And then, there's a girl, and there's an inspiring book, and there's a friend, - and so, there's hope. I was on the edge of my seat until the last moment, but the writer saved three of my faves and put them on a roadtrip to California, away from the gangster hell. Just like in the book that Jimmy and Pearl were reading on the show! What's amazing about it is the abundance of historical detail and the depth of relationships, especially in found families vs. biological ones. It's like reading an unaired episode!

My recip appears to like her story, and I couldn't wish for more :)

I didn't get a chance to read much else, but I'm excited for reading TONS of fic during those two long roadtrips that are coming for me over the weekend and New Year's. OM NOM NOM, I WILL EAT YULETIDE LIKE CANDY. THERE WILL BE RECS.

Randomly, I have a tiiiiny (understatement!) thing for offbeat Christmas movies, and this year, I discovered The Family Stone. Let me go sob in the corner. This? Is not a comedy the trailer wants you to believe. This stupid movie gets to me so much, urgh, it should be illegal. Let me go cry again. Otherwise, we are just hanging out around the house today with the little guy as he's gleefully pilfering ornaments from the Christmas tree.

I am a little bit more than overwhelmed by the Game of Thrones love right now. I got THREE fabulous Varys-centric fics for Yuletide, it's not even a double but a triple rainbow.

Varys is one of my unconditional faves; he is one of the true play-makers in the game of thrones and since ADWD, I have a majorly spoilery theory about whom he really champions and why. More of his cards and of his plot-important past are revealed in the later books and with each twist, I get more and more fascinated with him. Also, he totally ships Loras/Renly on the show, what's not to love.

These fics are not like each other at all, and they all give a different but believable insight into Varys. Well-written, well-plotted - I'm imploding with love for the writers! In no particular order, run and read:

• Nasty Habits, where Varys plays a drinking game with himself. He needs to cope with the Westeros politicos and there's only so many times anyone can hear that the winter is coming! Hysterical and clever.

• Said the Spider to the Fly, where Littlefinger and Varys spar at the foot of the Iron Thrones, against the ever-changing backdrop of kings and queens. Thinky and emotionally engaging.

• No Light Anywhere, and Nothing Left to Burn, where Varys plays a drinking game again but the real people are pawns, and you have this sinking feeling that when you lose, you die. Subtle and ominous.

Young Americans (TV, 2000) is a short-lived show about privileged students and not-so-privileged townies at the preppiest school on the East Coast. Think Dawson Creek meets Dead Poets Society (sans suicide) meets the generation du jour's hot topics.

Main storylines contain a dash of incest, a genderfuck, a token Bitch Brit, philandering parents and an upstairs-downstairs romance. It's nowhere as racy as it sounds because the show was sponsored by Coca-Cola to a hysterical degree of product placement.

Most of the cast made it big in the past ten years. Ian Somerhalder (Lost, The Vampire Diaries, The Rules of Attraction), Kate Bosworth (as everyone's girlfriend), Kate Moennig (The L Word), Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim, Queer as Folk UK, the upcoming Crimson Peak, but luckily, not 50 Shades of Why), how about that for a line-up? (Not that you should care, but you will never guess which one of them is Gwyneth Paltrow's cousin.)
