At least, mostly done with Yuletide! It's quite a beast of a fic, so I'm now looking forward to reading things rather than writing them :)

Thank you! I truly feel like I ran a marathon with this assignment. It was super fun to write and research, but now it's time to enjoy life with no obligations :D

I think the challenge started a lot earlier this year! One of my fall movie nominations barely squeaked in. I'm looking forward to a whole lot of small and weird fandoms.

We are going to see it Monday. I'm cautiously excited. I just can't imagine a proper Star Wars without Han and Leia BUT Poe and Finn and Rey aren't so bad :P

I thought the film was more about entertainment than character development. Kylo was so extra. The ending was really surprising to me - they almost had me going with the whole Kylo and Rey connection/getting Kylo to turn. I did like Rose and her can-do spirit, and I totally want to ship Admiral Holdo/Leia. Poe and Finn were not the heroes I wanted them to be, though. Neither was Luke, but I guess that was the point? It was like no one wanted to step up to the plate and form a thought-out plan as a team. I've been reading some tumblr discourse, and I can see why people were upset with the film. What about you?

I was definitely entertained but not blown away! That whole space chase plot was a mess.

I had the same problem as with TFA: love the characters, don't think it's a good movie overall. It had a few brilliant moments and I'm very fond of practically everybody, but some storylines went literally nowhere or their resolution fell flat. I hated the Mirror of Erised cave scene and I'm not sure that Kylo is up to the task as the new Big Bad worthy of Palpatine and Vader. Unless they pair it up with war machine/profiteering from Finn's Space Monaco subplot?

My favorite storyline was a grumpy and then badass Luke, even though I get that it wasn't very Jedi of him. Loved everything about Leia, and I thought it was super shippy how Poe had such a big crush on her and yes, lol, there was definitely a Hondo/Leia vibe!

Otherwise, I went in mildly shipping Finn/Rey and I went out mildly shipping Kylo/Hux (I'll see myself out), only I'm mostly interested in the Hux part of it. Domhall Gleeson is just such a good actor and I thought he felt very StarWars-ey. I love the idea of uptight space bureaucracy and crack fic.

I also see a lot of ~discourse, but... I found parts of it that I can enjoy as a fan, and I wish other people the same. I just hope Episode IX has a different director because I don't think this one had a good understanding of the spirit of the franchise.

Ya, I was hoping for some Finn/Rey and they kept that ship very low-key. I can definitely see the Kylo/Hux angle. Hux as the most Star Wars of them all! His outfit was killer.

They were very blatant about how they wanted to leave the 'old star wars' behind. But that made for a very interesting look at Luke, who's just become this jaded old man. I think that made perfect sense with all that has happened. I did think it was weird that he didn't know about Han, but then they just kind of glossed over it?

I can see the tidbits about profiteering really becoming a major part of the plot in the future. I'd like to get way more into space transport and space war logistics, if I'm being honest.

I agree about the mirror of Erised. I pretty much forgot about that whole scene. I couldn't tell if they were trying to tease that she is connected to some crazy bloodline, or if they just want to settle it that her parents aren't famous. Since when is Rey conflicted in any way? She's always been the most clear-eyed, if not naive.

I'm very much looking forward to some fandoms I didn't request, like People of Earth or Agatha Christie's or the Folgers commercial. And all The Good Place fic! I did my reading from A to Z last year, this year I'm doing it Z to A :)
